Age Myth of Entrepreneurs

The Mark Zuckerberg story headlines most news stories this day and he has become the poster-child for what a success entrepreneur looks like.  Yes, that even includes the notion that successful entrepreneurs drop out of school and start young.

Sub-consciously we hear the Zuckerberg story and think about all the ways we’re not like him and his story and thereby dismissing our entrepreneurial opportunity.

A recent study Kaufmann Foundation found Zuckerberg to be the exception not the rule. The ideal age for entrepreneur is 40 which includes being married and with kids.  The study highlights years of practical business experience, maturity, and family responsibilities all combine to make a better entrepreneur.

In other words, its never too late to start, and its probably better that you’re starting later than earlier.
