National Non-Profit Day- August 17
Nonprofits play a vital role in society and our country.
Did you know?
Nonprofits employ 10% of the U.S. workforce.
Nonprofits make up 5.7% of the United States GDP.
The total U.S. nonprofit annual revenue is $2.62 trillion.
Even more than this, it is the work that nonprofits represent. They are serving some of the most needy and overlooked segments of society.
If nonprofits didn’t exist, many people would go hungry, without healthcare, remain un-educated, would not have a roof over their heads or a place to sleep, lack a place to worship, and have no place to organize to build relationships and community.
They also give people a place to express gratitude through giving.
More important than the fact that 56% of people in America donated to charity in 2021, it is the value of being a giver and what it does for the donor in addition to the receivers.
Generosity results in greater happiness for the receiver but even more so for the giver.
It really is true what was said by Jesus in the 1st century that, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Nonprofits give people a place to be generous and experience the blessing of blessing others!
I also find that some of the kindest, most missional, most helpful, most service-oriented, humble, and caring people in the workforce can be found working at a nonprofit.
National nonprofit day (Thursday, August 17th) is a celebration of great work and great people serving others for the greater good!
Quote:
“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.”
