Inoculate Them… Against Affluenza
When our founder, Scott Keffer, spoke to a small group of very successful business owners who belonged to the Young President’s Organization (YPO), they asked him ahead of time to address a very disconcerting issue for them.
“Will my money hurt my heirs? That’s my biggest concern,” confided the young entrepreneur who invited him. He was very concerned about what we call “affluenza” – the effect that leaving a large amount of wealth can have on heirs.
Warren Buffet said it best, “You should leave children enough money so that they would feel they could do anything, but not so much that they could do nothing.”
Isn’t that good?
Let me ask you a question, “How much is that?”
Donors need to think about the question.
Here’s a great way for you to help: remind them that the best method to inoculate children and grandchildren against the potential negative impact of an inheritance is charity.
They can teach their heirs about giving while they are living… then leave them charitable dollars to direct after they are gone… all the while inoculating them against affluenza.
