Zig Ziglar: Gave me a great gift!
Simply stated: INSPIRATION!
My father was an avid listener of motivation and success audios in his car. I fondly remember Zig Ziglar being included having always preached the power of Automobile University. Although I never took much notice of it then and even after I was on my own, neverthelesss the personal development seed was firmly planted for me.
Then when I reached a point of great discouragement and disillusionment after my father died at the young age of 62 I turned to old familiar values.
I scoured my father’s library for motivation, leadership and insights finding first his copy of, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill, then some original Zig Ziglar stuff.
I then invested in everything of Zig Ziglar’s I could get my hands on. His DVD and audio series “Born To Win”, “Strategies for Success” and “Goal Setting” proved powerful! And books like “Raising Positive Kids in a Negative World,” “God’s Way Is Still The Best Way” and his latest book, “Born To Win” have all made a profound difference in my life.
Feeling like I had lost my way and drifted into a acceptable life of mediocrity I was jolted by Zig’s story of his encounter with Mr. Merrell, the CEO of the company he had a sales job with at the time.
Mr. Merrell told him, “I’ve watched you for 2 ½ years and I’ve never seen such a waste. I believe you could be a national champion if you just recognized your own ability, believed in yourself and went to work on a regular schedule.”
I watched Zig tell this story as I biked in my basement but I had to stop as I thought Zig was telling the story just for me. It jolted me to life and to get at being the entrepreneur, author, speaker and world-class servant I believe God designed me to be.
As a result I started three businesses, finished my first book, made my trusted friend Scott Noble a business partner, expanded my library and hired many coaches.
None of these things have been done to prove how much I can do and get for me. My dad always said to be great you have to be a giver not a taker.
Therefore Zig’s inspirational line that is driving me in all I do is: “If you help enough other people get what they want, you’ll get everything you want.”
A powerful principle I will continue to live by and pass on to my children and beyond. And a principle this world would be better off for modeling.
Having become friends Tom Ziglar, admittedly proud son of Zig Ziglar and CEO of Ziglar, Inc., I’m confident the legacy will continue on for generations to come.
INSPIRATION is a critical trait of, A No Regrets Entrepreneur.

A TRIBUTE TO ZIG ZIGLAR CONTINUED
I was so excited to meet and get to know Tom Ziglar and catch his zeal and excitement for continuing the legacy of his father through the Ziglar Corporation. The Zig Ziglar ideas, inspiration and principles are timeless and never more needed than now.
In our present age of negativity about the country and our individual futures we need principles that will inspire us and move us forward.
“You were Born to Win. But in order to be the winner you were born to be, you must plan to win, prepare to win, then and only then, can you expect to win.” – Zig Ziglar
Just before my father passed away, he grabbed me close to give me this charge, “Barry, be sure you take care of your mother.” This charge drove me to fix what was broken in his estate plans and then create another way for wealthy people to look at and create their personal wealth future. Ultimately, to show families how to have, “Wealth With No Regrets.”
“Desire is created when something happens in your life that suddenly changes the way you see yourself in relationship to your future.” – Zig Ziglar
For awhile I was mesmerized by the shiny object syndrome. You know, believing there are short cuts to success in an area you care about deeply. After being frustrated for some time thinking this way, I met with Tom Ziglar and he relayed a private conversation with his father about the driving source of his success.
“Other than character and integrity the #1 reason for my success is persistent consistency.” – Zig Ziglar
Goal setting has always been a challenge for me. Which is surprising to most people having become an elite triathlete, finishing near the top of my age groups in most of my races and having become a 4-time Ironman finisher. As I thought about goal setting it most often seemed selfish and self-absorbed. But Zig Ziglar’s “Goal Setting” and “Strategies for Success” programs has helped me here.
“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” – Zig Ziglar
So as we morn the loss of people we respect, have loved and been close to remember this:
“Look back in forgiveness, forward in hope, down in compassion, and up with gratitude.” – Zig Ziglar
Other Inspirational Zig Ziglar quotes:
“Fear has two meanings. Forget everything and run. Face everything and rise.”
“We don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason.”
“Of all the attitudes we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life changing.”
